Mentioning houses in comfined sites, I'd definitely recommend this book by Atelier Bow-Wow, Pet Architecture Guide Book.
The book investigates and studies the leftover (really small & narrow) spaces within the urban fabric of Tokyo, and the possibilities and ways of building architecture in those spaces. It features projects by Atelier Bow-Wow itself with lots of illustrations.
I don't have the book, though.. I really want a copy..
